removing a bath side and trap

user1498911589 · 06/08/2017 19:33

How easy is it likely to be to remove the trap under a bath plug mechanism so I can push up the plug to remove it? The bath is empty.

Is is likely to be hard/impossible and how likely is it that the space will be full of mahoosive spiders that will eat me

@PigletJohn or anybody else who can help!

why do you need to take the panel off? Is it a pop-up waste? Have you got some blu-tak?

Post some photos.

It's one of the ones where you twist the thing under the taps and the plug pops up in the middle. We might have some blu tak. I've tried undoing the screw for the turning thing to put the plug up but I can't.

we've got one of these which is fitted on the side of the bath in the middle by the wall below the taps.

it's a pop-up waste. Press some blu-tak on the plug and lift it up. Put a nailfile under the edge as soon as it starts to lift. You will find a brass bolt screwed into the underside of the plug (unless it has fallen out). loosen it a fraction of an inch and tighten the locknut to prevent it moving.

A lever operated by the knob comes up and presses on the head of the bolt to lift it.
