When should we......

empty our loft and bring the items downstairs? We are moving house ourselves as we simply cannot afford to get someone in to do it for us unfortunately (we have lots of friends).

We have sorted our loft out ready to move but I think we should save ourselves some time and bring things down before moving day but when??? It's an average 3 bed semi sized loft with quite a bit in it.

What would you do????

Start now, having to shift everything will really make you think what you need to keep.

Have you exchanged? How long to completion?

special subject - we are hoping to exchange early next week to complete week after.

Get on with it!!! I know it isn't definite but we packed ourselves and the final stages took the best part of two weeks . I had been collecting boxes and materials before and we had one removal van full in the end. Plus all the garden stuff which went separately .

Hope it all works out but do not underestimate the task.

it can save time to load stuff into carrier bags and lower them down through the loft hatch with a cord looped through the handles. Do the sorting and binning downstairs (in the garden if the stuff is dusty).

I find translucent storage crates useful for packing, they withstand damp and dirty conditions and you can see what's inside them. You can stack them neatly. They are not very suitable for carrying up and down loft ladders, though.

Here's a hint- don't recommend our way. Everything packed, 4DC finally asleep, removal vans arriving first thing, looked up, oh shit, loft hatch, completely forgot there's a shed load of stuff in the loft...

As soon as possible after exchange.

I wouldn't do it before just in case something happened that meant you had to put the property back on the market and then you'd have to lug it all back up again.

...but when you empty the loft or shed or garage, you realise a lot of it is junk and can go to the tip or on Freegle.

Yes agreed start as easily as possible, then you realise how much of the stuff you don't actually need any more.
