Location suggested for Kent

Hello all,
I am looking for some ideas of nice areas anywhere for my lovely children's grandparents to move to. I have finally convinced my mum to leave Zone 2 London!!! The only problem is, I have no clue where we should be looking.
I live in Bexley so anything up and off the A2 would be nice.
I haven't lived in Kent long enough to know good areas from challenging (I just got lucky).
I have been to Ashford a couple times for the outlet but that's about it and I have read a few off putting things so it's scared me as I was originally looking in that area.
All suggestions welcome.

My mum wants to be close to her grandchildren and they have friends in the Gravesend area but they don't wish to live there. She has always wanted to move from South East London, it's changed so much. The ideal solution would have been to move to another area in Dulwich or in the Bexley area, but unfortunately the prices are now way out of reach. She doesn't like where she lives anymore and wants to move. I have opened her eyes to Kent along with the other friends they have as a good option and she agrees. I can assure you there is no dictatorship going on. I am essentially the equivalent of a property finder for her I will give her viable options and she will decide what she likes best. I do all the leg work basically.
I am just asking for ideas because I have no idea about other parts of Kent.
Thank you for your concern and your Canterbury recommendation because she told me they also have a few friends that have moved there although she has never been.

My mum is the complete opposite. She lives in a flat that she has owns and now the whole area is young renters who play alot of loud music, there is also a problem with smoke drift and the smoke we are talking about is not the cigarette kind.
The stairs are annoying, no lift and lots of other factors she just isn't happy there.

B3 , I think most people will have got that you are helping your mother not trying to force her to do something against her wishes . Hope you find what you are looking for in Kent .

I'd suggest you stop off at Faversham on the way to Canterbury. Lovely little town, with loads of historic buildings. Canterbury has three universities, so is full of students, and is heaving with tourists in the summer.

Sorry B3 if I sounded a bit harsh. I am sure you have your mum's best interests at heart and I think I was just projecting!

DH and I have just retired after 30 years in the city and have identified Canterbury as the perfect place, for all the reasons above, plus it is largely pedestrianised and I hate driving. I don't see the students as a bad thing and i have enrolled on a Maser's course there. We are nearly your DPs' age, we have just bought a four storey Georgian townhouse and I was sensitive at the suggestion that I should already be thinking about a Stannah stairlift!
