Carpet and underlay

Carpet fitter has put down 10 mmm pu foam underlay and has stapled it to the floor. But he hasn't taped the join. When I've asked him about he says he has never done so and has been fitting carpets for 20 years. Online it says to do this.

I've backed down particularly as he got the carpet retailer to speak to me.

Am I being picky or is it okay to not tape underlay?

He's the experienced fitter and has stapled the underlay in place. Pretty sure I've only seen taped joins on underlay which isn't stapled in place.

Thanks for response wowfudge. Just that saw a few 'how to do it yourself' videos on you tube and they were stapling and taping. Think too much googling is not always a good thing!
