Just that really! I'm interested to hear of timeframes from others. We're due to exchange on 7th August

2-4 weeks is the norm. But can be anything. We had 3 months (unusual!)

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 28/07/2017 17:14

We had 1 week (which I think is relatively short)

crabwoman · 28/07/2017 17:18

Our last move was about 5-6 days but I think there was extra urgency as it was just before Christmas. Had taken ages to get to exchange as it was a long chain.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 28/07/2017 17:20

I've never had over a week and once did it simultaneously which was a little stressful to say the least!

Lilmisskittykat · 28/07/2017 17:43

Same day here

specialsubject · 28/07/2017 18:37

How long do you want? This is for discussion before exchange when completion date is set.

Given that nothing is confirmed until exchange, and that broadband phone can take 10 days, post redirect takes five days, organising removals takes however long - how much extra hassle do you want?

Two weeks is sensible.

specialsubject · 28/07/2017 18:37

And if you want removals for the bank holiday - good luck.!!

rainsbow · 28/07/2017 18:45

Buyers want 2/3 weeks we'd love to have longer as our new house isn't ready for about a month after.

Doesn't hurt to ask - and hate to say it but new builds can get delayed. Look into holiday cottage, house sit plus storage etc.

eurochick · 28/07/2017 19:08

I've done 2 weeks for a couple of moves and same day once. DONT DO SAME DAY.

Rhubarbtart9 · 28/07/2017 19:10

1 week

rainsbow · 28/07/2017 19:11

Sorry it's not a new house, it's just our new house Grin the next two rungs on the chain won't have exchanged

OP posts:
Allthebestnamesareused · 28/07/2017 19:16

Why would you be exchanging and no-one else in the chain? That would be very unusual.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/07/2017 19:25

Why won't the chain exchange together?

rainsbow · 28/07/2017 19:28

First time buyers buying our house
We're moving in with my parents temporarily
Vendors of our next house have only just had offer accepted on their next place and those owners won't be ready yet either.

5 people in the chain all of whom began the process at different times.

Zubba · 28/07/2017 19:29

We exchanged on the Monday and completed on the Wednesday.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/07/2017 20:03

Ah I see. Try and get as long as possible to reduce the stay with your parents. Obviously it'll need compromise if your buyers don't want a long gap.

Hobbes8 · 28/07/2017 20:09

We did 2 days. It was supposed to end a week, but the exchange kept getting delayed, and completion was due the Friday before Christmas so we couldn't really push it back. It was stressful and I'd redirectednpost and ordered a grocery shop to a house I didn't own!

specialsubject · 28/07/2017 20:20

Ah. Its not really a chain above you, your sellers are a way off I fear.

Carry on, don't lose your buyers, but unless your vendors are also prepared to rent or move in with family they can't exchange as they have nowhere to go.

Anon511 · 29/07/2017 21:31

Ours is 3 weeks this time

Muffinbutton · 30/07/2017 10:23

We exchanged on our sale, then 4 weeks later we exchanged on our purchase. We didn't want to lose our buyers so took the risk.
Completion happened at the same time 2 weeks on.
