Changing house name

We're in the process of buying a house with an awful name that we would want to change. It's not quite Casa Bevron (I miss Brookside!) but it is along the same lines i.e. a mash up of the names of the couple that currently live there. Is it a real faff to change a house name? My googling says the council may charge a fee but how much is this likely to be? Unfortunately the houses on the street are all names rather than numbers so we can't just drop the name and use the number because it doesn't have one! Thanks in advance.

I think you'll have to pay the fee - our council charges around £65 for it. When we moved in our house was known by a confusing name which was different from the name on the title register and we managed to get the council to change it for nothing on the basis that at some point in the past someone there had arbitrarily picked a name that wasn't correct.

My parents did this and it was straightforward. Not sure on costs but I can't imagine it would be hundreds.

No harm in making friends with your postie and letting them know too.

Have you got a new name in mind? RM or the council might be able to tell you the original one, or neighbours might know.

Thanks both. No idea about a new name. I'm useless with that sort of thing. Hopefully inspiration will strike at some point!

No advice but thank you for making me smile by reminding me of Casa Bevron! SmileSmileSmile

I can't help with your actual issue but I feel the need to share that there's a house near my Grandma that's a sort of mock Spanish villa and it's been called 'Costa Plenty'

I have been looking for a nice name sign for our house, I found some lovely ones online but they were in South Africa so I emailed and they won't post them here. They were lovely glass and metal type ones. Have you spotted any nice ones for when you decide?

Have you ever been somewhere lovely together? Could you use that?
