Why would you want two kitchens?

I have 2 kitchens. It's a bit of a pain. One is the traditional scullery I guess (with sink and fridge and gas cooker) the other is like a breakfast room but has the Aga so nearly everything happens in there.

I'm planning renovations now to sort it out into a more modern kitchen.

It's clearly being used as 2 sepearate flats, and there is a kitchen for each - it even says so in the description!

Either a granny flat or a holiday let?

Is Ed Miliband selling his house?

Finola1step · 25/07/2017 16:06

Ground floor space could have been used as a self contained flat for a carer, house keeper, au pair etc. Or for an adult age child of the owner. Or rented out as a holiday let.

I have also heard of 2 kitchens in a Jewish household to observe Kosher rules.

ShesABloodyLoon · 25/07/2017 16:07

I'd LOVE IT! One where I can prepare meals in peace and bake to my heart's content and the other that the family can use and mess up! I'd also like to request a lock on the door of my own personal kitchen to keep the kids from running in every two seconds to ask for something to eat and another bloody drinks! Honestly, how much do these little beasties need to eat in the school holidays?!?!

loveka · 25/07/2017 16:34

One is for the holiday let!

yes I saw a US property show once where a Jewish couple were house hunting and 2 kitchens was one of their requirements.

TheFirstMrsDV · 25/07/2017 16:37

Strict Kosher household?
Most have to cope with two sinks and separate prep area though.

TheFirstMrsDV · 25/07/2017 16:39

Just looked. Probably something to do with holiday letting

Family with 2 wives

Sperate kitchen for cake making/catering kitchen

Jewish /other religious reasons

Multi generational family

RebelandaStunner · 25/07/2017 16:50

You don't need two kitchens there. They have an extensive menu at Curry Cottage and a chippy which is a grade 2 listed building.

Two kitchens and good takeaways then, ideal holiday let. I must admit I hadn't thought of that, I guess it explains the lack of personal belongings.

Gordon Ramsey has 2 kitchens. One for him and one for the family.

CatsCatsCats11 · 25/07/2017 17:53

I would love it! A whole kitchen for me to bake it and store all my baking crap .... bliss!

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 25/07/2017 17:55

I've got 3 kitchens.

Newtssuitcase · 25/07/2017 17:56

My DSis has two kitchens for religious reasons (Jewish)

HipsterHunter · 25/07/2017 18:13

Yup it even says in the description accommodation over four levels and potential to have an extensive, flexible self contained letting annexe or two separate properties

Basically the ground floor is a 1 bed flat.

3?! 🤔

Yep.
Main kitchen.
Old kitchen (mostly used as a utility room theses days).
Spare kitchen (kitted out as a dark room by the previous owners).

WeAllHaveWings · 25/07/2017 19:12

If you ha e two kitchens do you need to pay two lots of council tax? I'm sure I read that somewhere?

DaisyDando · 25/07/2017 19:14

I grew up with two kitchens. I suppose it is a bit odd, thinking about it now. A lot handier than you might think though.

Ramona75 · 26/07/2017 15:54

My boyfriend used to live in a house with 2 kitchens! I think it was a flat conversion as there was one upstairs and one downstairs. It was quite handy as the games/video room was downstairs, so all the bad snacks were kept down there in that kitchen, quite convenient :-)
