When do you do stuff?

This seems like such a daft question, but its been such a long time since I've moved - I haven't got a clue!

We are in a chain of 3 (first time buyers, us and vendors who are moving into rented). We all wanted to be completed by end of August but that is looking less likely as time rolls on.

Is there anything I can be doing while I'm hoping for the chain to complete? Are you meant to get quotes from removals, or wait until exchange? My daughter has autism and I've not even taken her to the new house yet for fear of it falling through.

I hate this waiting - not knowing what is going on and not really being able to do very much.

Bumping and following. I'm in Scotland though so some things are different!

Have all 3 had surveys and searches done?

Could get couple of removals to come to quote as imagine they get very busy towards end of August

Is your DD starting new school in sept?

If she isn't in school yet or not changing schools then think it would be cheaper to wait until mid sept for removals

What does solicitor and estate agent say is holding it up? although they are not always honest you might get an idea what problem is

Tidy, tidy and tidy some more! Chuck out as much as possible.

Check with your buildings insurance if they will cover both properties between exchange and completion

Definitely get removal quotes now

A lot of things though can't really happen until exchange. Such as address changes

I'm in the same position
I've started having a MAJOR declutter!
Going through every cupboard/wardrobe/storage box
So I know when it's time to pack every single thing is used and wanted!
I have actually started packing a few bits just because I fancy it and find it very exciting and gives me motivation but not crazy amounts just stuff we don't use much!
Good luck
