Need dog friendly flooring

Hi a funny request and I don't know whether to ask on dogs page or on this one.
We're getting an extension built which will give us a kitchen dining and sitting/relaxing areas but our 8 year old arthritic black Labrador slips and slides on the laminate floor and ceramic tiles that are currently down. Does anyone have a similar problem with their dog and what flooring worked best? We're looking at flooring for it and thinking about getting a matt karndean or amtico tile but we don't want to spend all this money on it if it's going to cause our dog an injury

We had travatine tiles for our old greyhounds. They had a Matt finish and didn't have a problem on them.

Non-slip vinyl or lino should work, or you could look at cork flooring.

We have a dog (but it's not arthritic) and he walks fine on the Karndean we have down. Ours is the wood effect strips and it's not smooth like laminate, it has a grain texture to it.

vinyl will probably do, but you can expect it to get scratched by his claws.

it is not very long-lasting in a kitchen, but fairly easy to take up and replace.

Some sort of riven slate or unglazed tile would also do.

Textured flooring is difficult to clean as it holds the dirt and won't easily brush or mop.

We have wood effect Karndean, and our two lurchers whizz round on it with no problems unless its wet, and it hasn't scratched and cleans easily

totally understand what you mean, our lab is the same. He is okay (not 100% confident, but doesn't refuse like laminate or smooth tiles) on my dm textured lino, I guess any tile that is rough (like concrete pavements) would be okay too, but a nightmare to keep clean.

He doesn't spend much time in the kitchen so we have a couple of carpet runners for him to walk on if he is being nosey and he is usually okay wandering about as long as his back feet stay firmly on them.

Have you considered grippy socks

I have Karndean wood effect, you can find one that has some surface texture. When it was new, my Labrador was doing a Bambi imitation, but it soon became less slippy and now he's fine on it.
