Horrible 1970s stairs in early Victorian cottage. When I moved in, they were painted with orangey varnish.
I put 4 layers of chalk paint plus 2 layers of clear varnish over the original varnish.
The chalk paint is very chipped after having the stair way replastered and the chalk paint did tend to lift in places anyway.
How should I remove all the paint, so I can paint the steps directly? Sanding? Peel-away or similar?
I've never had to remove chalk paint or varnish before.
