Buying carpet online

Does anyone have any recommendations of websites you've successfully bought carpet from please? I don't mean major retailers websites, more specialist carpet suppliers.

We've had a bad experience with me being told one price in the shop then DP being quoted much higher and the difference is such that it makes it out of budget.

We found something else we like elsewhere and I've just been trying to find out the pile weight and stumbled across a company called floor-site.com selling the carpet we liked originally at a price we can afford and the second choice one for even less.

We used online carpets for our carpets and vinyl and they were great and really cheap!

Thanks Muddling - they don't sell either of the carpets we like unfortunately.

I have used both ebay and a company called Lovecarpet I specifically wanted a berber one by Manx Tomkinson, this was around £8 a square metre cheaper than my local retailer so a huge saving.

Bored - one of the ones we like is a Tomkinson carpet. And thanks for the reminder about eBay.

We used flooring megastore and they were great.

I've found another - Big Red Carpet Company which supplies the carpet we've decided on. Anyone used them? Their pricing is inclusive of VAT, unlike some of those I've looked at.

Hi wow. We seem to be on each other's threads a lot lately! I'm very interested in this too. Haven't picked out carpet yet but I'd wager we'll get it online.
We used Big Red when we did our loft conversion a couple of years ago. They were great- carpet delivered quickly and it was perfect. We had a meticulous (and cheap!) carpet fitter too. Sadly I don't think he'd travel the 120 miles we would need him to, to fit the next ones...

Thanks Tatlerer - that's really good to know. The carpet is for our new dining room. We should have everything finished in a fortnight. By which point I'll be so knackered we'll have a takeaway!

wowfudge how fantastic that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Our work won't be finished until November and that's if things run to schedule, which of course they never do.
I have no idea what to do for flooring in our dining room. The original floorboards aren't in too bad nick, but there's a essentially a void under that floor so I think a carpet/LVT of some type would be helpful in keeping it warm. I'm a bit nervous of carpet though, in case of spillages. Unless it's one that can be bleached clean of course.
