are radiator covers 'old hat'

I am considering one so give me some pros and cons.

is there such a thing as a modern cool radiator cover?

Just get some nice radiators if you don't want to look at them, they're a bit naf and also will make your rads less efficient as you have to heat the MDF first before heating the room.

We moved into a house that just had a single narrow shelf about 3 inches above the radiator.

It really surprised me how much it made the heat "whoosh" out into the room rather than just rise upwards.

The shelf stuck out from the wall just an inch or two further than the radiator. Looked very modern and sleek.

Made a big difference to the appearance of the room too, as it was just wide enough to put decorative things on the shelf, so they distracted your gaze from the radiator.

We'll definitely do it in our next house. Simple and cheap job.
