Exchange and completion

Hi, we have accepted offer on house and process has been underway for about 4 weeks. At what point do we agree / receive in writing the date of exchange and completion? Thanks

Where are you with things? Has buyer received the contract pack from your solicitor, have they made enquiries, have they applied for searches, has valuation/survey been done and mortgage approved? Once all these are done you receive documents to sign and exchange can then happen. Just at the point you're ready to exchange a date will be agreed for completion. Don't wait to be written to, contact your solicitor and ask where things are.

Hi thanks for your response. Buyer's survey and Mortgage has been agreed, we have received offer letter with none specific date, solicitors have been engaged and searches are underway I believe...

Not until searches and enquiries are processed and mortgage offer confirmed. Have you completed the sellers' questionnaire yet?

Have you filled in the questionnaires and fittings and fixtures etc for your solicitor? Until searches are back and enquiries made they can't talk dates. It's infuriating and I've heard tales of searches taking 8 weeks but usually it's 2-3. If it's 8 weeks then our dreams of a 1st August move are out. Good luck.

Thanks for your responses. Fixtures and fittings list done and mortgage approved so guess we are just waiting for searches now.

We never got the exchange date in writing, once the whole (mercifully short) chain was ready to exchange, the solicitor just phoned up and confirmed we were happy to exchange. It had slipped by several days from when we thought everyone was ready. The completion date has to be set as a prerequisite for exchange of contracts though so we did get that in writing.
