East or west facing garden

Hi all

Im wanting to buy a new home. I need to reserve off plan. The house style i want only has two houses left, one is an east facing garden and one a west facing garden. Anyone know what this means for sun? There are south facing gardens on the next house down, but i was set on this style of house as a forever home.

Thanks

Easy facing means morning sun, west facing means evening sun. But will depend how overlooked they are by other houses as well - it might only get sun in the middle of the day if it's overlooked.

I once lived in a house with a west facing garden. It had a gloriously sunny back garden, especially in the evening.

Thank you

Mine is north-east facing and I really like it. It gets quite a bit of sun but there's always shady spots too. And although it's not direct sun in the evening, it's still warm and pleasant enough to sit out if it's been a hot day.

West facing garden is way better than south facing imo

West facing. Get the evening sun, perfect for BBQs Smile

Puffpaw · 02/07/2017 22:19

West is best.

West facing without doubt! Los of BBQs and gin in the evening sun!

OutandIntoday · 02/07/2017 23:13

No contest - west. Glorious afternoon and evening sun when you are most likely to be home to enjoy it. You can sit out till late on your deck/ patio right at the house.

Ours is west facing and it is great.

Crumbelina · 03/07/2017 08:09

Oh, 100% west! Our last house had a South East facing garden and I was a bit concerned that our new house has a North West facing one. I actually prefer this new one as we get some lovely evening sun.

Mine is west facing and is perfect for afternoons and evenings outside.

I would go west for outdoor seating/use, but if you are more of a conservatory type person, apparently East is better as otherwise it becomes too oven-like to use later in the day.

I have South and it is roasting in the summer, outdoors or in!

lanouvelleheloise · 03/07/2017 08:21

You can't answer this question on aspect alone because the light that you get depends on so many other factors. For example, if there's a building or a tall tree on one side of the garden, this will affect the shade cast when the sun is behind it. Topography, especially hills, can make an enormous difference. You also have to consider seasonal changes in the sun's height, which may mean that lower structures cast shadow later or earlier in the year. Have a careful look at what is around the garden - every plot is slightly different.

West facing, gets the sun in the afternoon and well into the evening for sitting out in, however any bedrooms that side will also get very warm.

Definitely West facing back garden is best.
Long glorious summer evenings, until the sun go's down

Exactly as lanouvelleheloise says. Even if you're west facing, all your sun could be blocked by a neighbouring house, tree or hill! Have a good look round both gardens.
