What do I do with walls where pictures have been?

We've got a few pictures and mirrors on the walls which are hanging on nails and hooks. When we move, should we take the nails out? And do we need to do anything with the holes that they leave?

Thanks

You should remove them and make good. But sometimes removing things can make more of a mess than leaving them. Well-placed hooks and screws can be used again too. There were literally thousands of the bloody things in the walls here and still.many more to remove, but you lose the will after a while.

I have always left them in situ, that is in properties I have sold though. (I presume you are selling). If you start removing them it could mean getting both the pollyfilla and the paint out, which could end up being a big job. I am always happy to find hooks in a new (to me) house, as I can hang my pictures up and make it feel like home. Eventually things get redecorated and moved around.

Thank you. Yes I was worried that removing them might make a mess!

I think I would leave them. A lot of mine have been there so long that they have been painted over when redecorating and wouldn't notice all that much when pictures are removed. As PP said, a few existing hooks and nails are useful, otherwise everyone picture you own ends up stacked on the floor for weeks.
