So angry with lying estate agent!

We had an offer accepted on a house 6 weeks ago but the seller had to find somewhere. 2 weeks later we received a call from our sellers EA to say she had had an offer accepted & her sellers had found somewhere & had an offer accepted and so the chain was complete.
On the Monday we notified our solicitor to proceed with searches etc & booked our valuation. Our solicitor had advised us not to proceed with anything or pay for anything until the chain was complete.

Fast forward almost one month to today. I had contacted our seller by text to arrange to go round and take some measurements this week. I asked her how her purchase was coming along. She said that she has heard TODAY that her sellers have found somewhere & their seller has an offer accepted so that's the end of the chain! I am gobsmacked to hear this when we were under the impression from the EA that things have been going through for a month already! He basically told us a complete pack of lies and we've told our solicitor, our buyers and our EA that the chain was complete a month ago when actually nothing has happened in that time.

I phoned my DH to tell him as he's away tonight & then it was too late to text our seller back to question her. My DH thinks it's best if he contacts the EA in the morning to find out what the hell is really going on. We are so angry that he lied to us and led us to believe everything was in place a month ago. Do these people have no morals whatsoever? We were even starting to plan moving dates which of course will be pushed back now.

Just needed to vent & wondered if anyone else has experienced similar? I must have been so naive to take that man's word for it, really pee'd off tonight!

EA's lie? NEVER!

In all honesty, they're total &*$"&$%s! True story I once knew a guy who started out as an EA, then joined the police and became a detective, then left and went back to being an EA!

There are other explanations though - something in the chain could have fallen through after he told you all was 'go', only for it to be resumed at a later date.

But, the simplest answer is usually the right answer!

It sounds as if your DH's approach is a sensible way forward. It could be human error or a miscommunication somewhere along the line. It might not be though.

Once your DH has communicated with your seller's EA, get confirmation in writing about the current state of the chain from your seller's EA. An email summary will do.

Hang in there. It's all a PITA.
