Extension- 4 big bedrooms or 5 smaller with box room?

We're in the middle of extending over an integral garage and have just knocked through. The plan was to extend one bedroom, add an ensuite to that one, and then create an additional bedroom. So going from 4 bed 2 bath (one v small single) to 5 bed 3 bath but leaving box room as it is.
We're a family of 5 so don't need 5 bedrooms and box room was to become a play room /spare room.
However, standing in the space last night the rooms would be so much bigger and better layout if we also knock through the box room.
Is the 5th bedroom worth keeping? We don't plan on moving so am thinking we should make the most of the space we actually use.
New plan would also avoid work on hall stairs and landing so would save money.
Drawings would probably help but I'm currently in bed pondering!

Really needs a diagram. With measurements.

Four big rooms.

We currently live in a 4 bed two of the bedrooms are small. We um and ah all the time about moving to get bigger bedrooms. Not an additional one.

So I would say definitely 4 big over 4 smaller and a box.

We are extending to do exactly that.

So I'm alternative plan instead of taking a corridor out of bedroom 2 to access new room, small room would knock through.

Can u post the full bigger plan I still can't fully visualise it. Also could a box room be used for a study, linen cupboard, upstairs laundry room? Do you need a spare 5th bedroom?

If you will never/very rarely use the 5th room then 4 big rooms is best. The house will feel more spacious and when it comes to sell, an extra box room won't be more attractive to most buyers than spaciousness.

Already have a study and playroom downstairs. Think will call the builder later!

Definitely four big rooms.

We would like to extend in future to even up the size of the rooms upstairs, add an extra ensuite and give us a bigger playroom and utility room downstairs.

We could probably add an extra bedroom but it would be poky. And if we needed an extra bedroom we could use the playroom in a pinch.
