hi

Am having our 4 bed totally rewired, new satin chrome switches and sockets, dimmers included, 3 bathroom and kitchen plus spotlights everywhere , living room dining room, etc

Sockets on both sides of the bed, also have those track lights that will be on another switch in the bedrooms and the living rooms

Initial payments made to the electrician was for

£1600
First batch of sockets and switches came out at £2497.48 + VAT.

am sure i might have some more labour to pay, is this outrageous, my builder tells me the guy is reasonable arghhhh

£2.5k just for sockets and switches? On top of the wiring work. Is that what you mean?

elay5 · 23/06/2017 12:18

Yes 2.5k for sockets and switches and down lights, 87 of those, 30 double sockets 6 double sockets with usb, will need to review the rest of bill later arghhh

Now you know why white plastic is so popular. Where has the stuff come from? We got ours from Screwfix and the electrician got the led downlights from his wholesaler.

Its meant to be from his supplier, i think the sockets are like a tenner, not sure if because we went for this satin chrome look arghhh, i must say house renovations are a nightmare and leave you totally drained and in a financial dungeon

Price is perfectly reasonable 87 LED downlights alone would be in the 1.3k region before vat presuming they are of a reputable brand and thats before the contractor adds a margin on top
