Paint pads

Anyone used paint pads? I've heard they're good but have only known of professionals using them; anyone tried them themselves?

Basically we're ripping out our kitchen/diner and starting from scratch, including new plaster on the walls and ceiling. We won't be able to paint until after the kitchen goes in and, with all the masking tape and dust sheets in the world, I don't think we're going to be able to roller the ceiling and walls without an awful lot of splattter. Particularly from the mist coat. And they're fancy high gloss cabinets so I'm scared!

So can I use paint pads? It's quite a big room - 5m x 4m with a high ceiling - will it take forever? Can I get an extender thingy to do the ceiling like you would with a roller? Could I use one for the mist coat?? I guess I'd do the cutting in with a brush as I would if I were using a roller...

Advice and experiences gratefully received Smile

I love paint pads, prefer them to rollers and they use a lot less paint in my opinion. I find them a lot easier to use too.

you can get pads which enable an easy cut in and do corners but i normally use a brush and then pad up as close as I dare!

I have paint padded the ceiling but in that case had to give in to a roller as that worked better on the bumps, however that could have been me balancing on a foot stool and over reaching!

I love paint pads. Really easy to use and I think they give a nicer finish than rollers.

If you overload the pad with too much paint, sometimes it does squirt out of the bottom so you do still have to use dust sheets to catch any accidents.

I would still use frog tape and a brush for the cutting in though.

Excellent, very reassuring, thanks! I can certainly protect against the odd accident but that fine mist that sprays off rollers drives me nuts.

This is very interesting- we are about to paint our hall, stairs, and landing and I wonder if a paint pad on a pole is the best option for doing the very highest point where the wall meets the ceiling?

Paint pads are great but don't get the Paint Pad Pro - rubbish.

Roystonv · 18/06/2017 09:17

Always use them as think a roller finish is very poor in comparison. Yes do watch them dripping, I make sure I squish the paint out of the bottom every few refills its win. They are quick and neat. I do use a brush for finishing off near skirting and ceilings.

Ffs iyswim!

Yeah Roy, I really don't like the rollered finish so will be glad to have anything other than that!

I'm guessing I would just buy a normal roller pole to put on the paint pad as I can't find anything that calls itself a pole for paint pads, although I can find pads that appear to be made for poles Confused

Can anyone recommend a good paint pad. I am not just a beginner I'm terrible & someone recommended TOMMY WALSH'S ENDORSED PAINT PAD PRO. After searching as was years ago he did his amazing TV commercial that made it look like even somone as incompetent as myself could accomplish a professional finish with no mess & the dreaded cutting in process looked so easy. It's embarrassing to admit I've spent hours searching for this product. The video is still easily found on you tube but couldn't find anywhere to purchase this so called D.I.Y painters dream. After not being able to find it I came across an article from a professional painting company warning NOT TO PURCHASE FOR MANY REASONS QUALITY OF PRODUCT FALLING APART ASWELL AS LEAVING STREAKYLINES & NOT CUTTING IN AS SEEN IN VIDEO (ODVSIOUSLY THEY WIPED DOWN BETWEEN BREAJS(. So I started my search again as really am the worst painter but am desperate to decorate both kids rooms but specially my sons disability equipment dominates his already small room. I just wanted to make it look as nice as possible for him so it was more like how ud decorated my daughters as a little girl years ago. So i researched again hours of so called "best paint pads" but as im on a tight budget & already faling for amazons reviews of their best one & it being far from easy & ended uo being a completenightmare. Bits broke off within 2hours aswell as coverage being streaky & uneven. I didnt skrimp on cheapest either as wanted to get top results& had brought a well known branded paint so know paint wasnt issue. Ive just sat down after hours of sanding off this disaster & feel kike cryingbut am determinedto give my son the best room i can & my daughterstoo.
THIS IS A PLEA FOR ANYONE WHO CAN RECOMMEND A GENUINE PAINTPAD SET THAT DOES WHAT TOMMY WALSH'S TV COMMERCIAL PROMISED. I feel defeated & so disappointed especially after attempting to research in advance & spending g the extra money on paint pad pro & good quality paint. I now need to buy more paint & hopefully a genuine proper paint pad system so if anyone can recommend any ones that work. Unfortunately WHICH HAVE NO REVIEWS ON PAINT PADS & ONLY ONE COULD FIND WAS CLEARLY FOR AMAZON WHICH AT FACE VALUE LOOKS PROMISING BUT I DECIDED TO FIND A REVIEW OF THERE EXCELLENT GRADED ONE & FOUND A VIDEO SHOWING EVEN WORSE RESULTS THAN MINE WHICH DIDNT THINK POSSIBLE. I'm on my own & can't afford to have decorated professionally if anyone can recommend any they have used successfully as my sons room looks terrible. I was desperate to give him a lovely little boys room that diverted away from all his disability equipment so he had a room as close to any other boys bedroom as felt so clinical. I just wanted to make it cosy but now it's absolutely terrible. I apologise for the over sharing & T.M.I. I am absolutely gutted that I've made his room worse. I would be so greatfull to anyone who can advise me of best paintpad set or single items to buy as I can't paint to save my life I've trued rollers, brushes & frig tape but am not a goid painter. I feel totally disheartened & embarrassed as I really did put so many hours of searching & reading reviews but I've let myself & my son down. Thankfully I hadn't started my daughters so there's a silver lining. My kids are my world & id saved to make it as perfect as could & have failed miserably.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT FULLY RECEIVED. & APOLOGIES AS REAKISE PROBABLY LONGEST POST IN HISTORY & FOR BEING SO EMOTIONAL. I REALISE MANY PEOPLE WONT HAVE TIME OR EBERGY TO READ THROUGH BUT IF ANYONE STILL THERE PLEASE ADVICE ME OR POINT ME IN RIGHT DIRECTION. MY SINCEREST THANKS IN ADVANCE
