Bolton/Horwich

I have been offered a job in Horwich, just north of Bolton. We would be relocating to the area as a family, DC1 in primary and DC2 in nursery. We would like a 4 + bed house with a garden, in a village or small town, not too rural. I am happy to commute by car or train. If anyone can recommend some good places for us to start looking I would be very grateful!

There are some lovely villages around that area, Adlington is very small and pretty and Rivington is beautiful.

Lostock is a nice area just down the road from Horwich with decent schools (primary) and good for Bolton School if that's an option. Bromley Cross is well regarded further out. If you didn't want to live in Bolton then you're probably better looking at going further from Manchester rather than coming closer into northern central Manchester.

Loads in Chorley / Buckshaw / Adlington - all on the train line to Horwich Parkway or next junction on M61.

I would recommend Adlington, really good Primary schools church and non church.2 nice childrens parks. Local canal for nice walks. It's pretty and well kept. Has a nice community and good amenities.

Thanks for all this, really helpful. Anyone know Haigh? We have seen some nice places round there.

Haigh is gorgeous, would always win my vote.

namechangedtoday15 · 14/06/2017 20:46

Is that Wigan?

PossibiliTea · 14/06/2017 20:50

Worsley/walkden is great because it's got a train station and not far from the Trafford centre but not really a town. Near a big Tescos and retail park. New m&s food.. naice!

guiltynetter · 15/06/2017 08:09

personally i would rule out worsley because of traffic, in a morning it's horrendous.

SusannahD · 15/06/2017 08:33

Agree worsley would not be an easy commute it's not on the Horwich train line and I doubt the traffic would be great. Lots of small towns in Chorley which would be ideal or Horwich, blackrod and lostock.

Yeah Haigh is in Wigan, just on the border really with Wigan and Bolton, really close to the motorways and middlebrook retail park but a quite little village with a lovely big park (Haigh hall)

namechangedtoday15 · 15/06/2017 19:16

I know Haigh Hall but don't know Haigh per se but generally speaking (sweeping generalisation) Bolton suburbs / Norwich much nicer than Wigan.
