Juliet Balcony

We have a massive Juliet balcony in our new loft conversion and I have absolutely no idea what to put up to block out light!

I was going to put up curtains but due to the angle our house is at we have realised that our neighbours can see in quite easily - so looks like we need something for privacy when we are changing etc.

Are there any options other than those office style vertical blinds?

Hi,we are having our loft done at the moment. I want to get blinds that fit the glass of the doors and are attatched on to the frame of them. Blinds2go seem to do them. For the Velux we have got the double blinds (one for bright sunshine and privacy and then another one for blackout) so perhaps there is something like that that would work for your doors too?

Don't get those office style vertical blinds!

How about 2 track curtain rail hotel style with voiles and normal curtains? Ikea sell them.

Or a translucent roller blind plus curtains?

Dontflyjet2 · 12/06/2017 11:07

Do you mean the perfect fit blinds SarahBeeney? I was wondering about those too.

Kokusai - I tried the curtain and voile look in my current bedroom and it just looks a bit rubbish. It looks great in Ikea! Plus we don't have much room for the curtains either side of the windows.

I did consider shutters but I can't find pics online to show how that would look in practice.

Sarah Beeney - can you link to the Velux blinds you are getting please?

Yes I'll try,I haven't chosen the exact ones but they'll be pleated black out...

SarahBeeney · 13/06/2017 16:25

I'm still browsing online but this is the kind of thing. They look easy to fit too.

SarahBeeney · 13/06/2017 16:26

I've ordered them via Velux though as I get a discount via my loft company. Sterlingbuild are competitive on price though.

We've put film on the windows to about 2/3rd height (about up to my neck if I was standing against the door

Gives us total privacy, but still lets in lots of light
We've put a curtain and pole up outside of the recess bit, so we can still open the doors if we want to (although in 4 years, we haven't)

Dontflyjet2 · 13/06/2017 19:38

Thanks for those links.
I've used 247 blinds in the past and the blinds weren't great quality. Blinds2go are usually good but don't seem to do those kind.

Check out there honeycombe blinds from Ikea. Cheap as chips but they look good and are practical.

This is ours with the frosted film...

Thansks for that - I don't want to cut out the view so film won't work for us.
We don't have an alcove around our juliet balcony windows either - they are flat to the wall so I'm not sure curtains would work either. I'm leaning towards the perfect fit blinds I think.

Take a picture for me if you do so then please OP!Smile

Quite a green view for London I think.

Dontflyjet2 · 15/06/2017 10:51

I will but it won't be for a while yet. We have two long windows either side of our opening doors - with smaller opening windows at the top. So I'm still unsure as to whether perfect fir blinds will look ok and whether they will block out enough light.

Ah I see. It's a tricky decision. You can't have darkness and air which is annoying. We have shutters in our current bedroom and when they're closed there's not much airflow.
