Kingsize or Superking?

We have a standard 1930s house with the master bedroom measuring 11'7 x 11'0. Chimney breast on one of the long walls and door on the other long wall. We currently have a double bed.

We are upgrading our bed and I'm wondering whether to go for it and get a superking. DH is big - 6'2" and an ex-wrestler. We also have 3 kids and hope for another, we do all love piling in for stories and sleepy cuddles.

However, I think DH would only have about 12 inches to get into bed and I would have to forgo a bedside table due to the doorway.

We have no plans to sell the house (don't need to dress the room etc) and no one sees our room apart from us lot.

Kingsize is obviously another option but WWYD?

We had a similar issue and went for a king-size. Were pleased we did. We'd be too far away from each other in a super king. We've got a super king duvet which is very lovely!

Mummamayhem · 11/06/2017 21:10

Super king is a life changer!

Chipsandonionrings · 11/06/2017 21:11

def superking. wish everyday when we had the choice I had got a superking. my bedroom is pretty small ( but with dressing room) and would leave very little room but I still would. cuddles with the kids not too mention them creeping in at night would be better with more space. do it!😄

We went for a super king. It is amazing! We've had it 2 years and DH still talks about how much he loves it. I think when the children are older and it's just the two of us, I'd probably switch to a king size, but the 4 of us can sleep in it comfortably at the moment, so it's never a problem if a child wants to come in at night.

thenightmanageress · 11/06/2017 21:13

Go for the superking
We bought ours earlier this year and just cannot get over how much better it is to have the extra space. We have 3 year old twins who climb up and in with us in the mornings and we still aren't on top of each other! Worth every penny.

Had my super king fifteen years now - life changer!
Would never go back.
You can sleep close together if you want to! Just don't have to...

Havaianas · 11/06/2017 21:15

Our bedroom is approx 10'x10'
Super king all the way here, we also have a bedside table with drawers (ikea malm) either side as well.
Imho room in the bed is far more important than empty floor space

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 11/06/2017 21:15

Goldfish that's my thinking, yes it's expensive but not so expensive we can't change back in 5 years when DC learn about personal space Grin

Def super king!
Life saver for us.
Never looked back!

Kokusai · 11/06/2017 23:13

I used to have a super king now I have a king.

I think I made a mistake :-(

A super king is basically two single beds. So if you think a single bed is too much room for one person (said no adult ever) get the king....

Brighteyes27 · 11/06/2017 23:20

DH 6ft 4 and I am 6ft both on big side we used to have a king size but when we bought a new bed two years ago we went for a good quality Super King instead and whilst I love the space in bed. Making the bed and ironing the massive duvet it makes me wish we'd got another King size.

BenjaminLinus · 11/06/2017 23:24

We have a large bedroom and bought a superking but found it too big and downsized back to a king. Dh is 6'2 rugby prop and I'm a lardy arse, but there was just too much space between us.

FeedMyFaceWithBattenberg · 11/06/2017 23:28

We don't have any children yet but I'm 14 weeks pregnant and we went from a double to a super king and OMG. I am in heaven 😍😍

islandpeninsula · 12/06/2017 07:22

Used to have a super king in the same size bedroom, was fine as all you do in bedroom is sleep and get dressed, currently renting and have a double can't wait to go back to super king....

Neutrogena · 12/06/2017 07:41

SuperKing is marvellous. Even better is the arrangement me and the wife have now - separate bedrooms on separate floors of the house. We both sleep like babies (young children notwithstanding) and going up/downstairs in night when one of us wants to 'talk' is like being 16 again...

But SuperKing all the way - you will not regret it. You can cuddle close if you wish, but also have an acre of space between you.
It really pays dividends when one of you is unwell/having a restless night.

StephanieAteMyLunch · 12/06/2017 08:22

We have superking zip and link (we couldn't get a 6ft mattress up our stairs) so two singles zipped together. It is bliss.

It is strange that a 3ft single is seen as the standard for a child and yet as adults we accept a much smaller bed. Who on earth can share a double bed? Grin

We have previously always had a king sized bed with a superking duvet, and then this house allowed us to get the superking. It is indeed a joy to sleep in. Plus with two gallumping boys aged 14 and 11 who still get in our bed to watch tv with us, a superking was the way to go.

Fiona1984 · 12/06/2017 08:26

I'd love a super king bed, I always get accused of encroaching on DP's side. We have a double with a king size duvet.

bumblebee61 · 12/06/2017 08:30

We have a King size but if it wasn't for the fact that we bought a very expsensive mattress which i love, after years of uncomfortable mattresses, I would have a super king. Slept in one on holiday and it was sheer bliss.

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 12/06/2017 09:48

I think you guys have convinced me but I'm worried by the poster who said a 6ft mattress wouldn't fit upstairs Shock We have high ceilings so hopefully tje delivery men can make like Ross and Chandler and PIVOT! Quite excited now Grin

I was worried it would be too decadent!

We bought a super king bed frame for our new house and eagerly awaited the arrival of the new mattress only to find that on delivery day they couldn't get the thing to go up the stairs, we have low ceilings too, so they had to take it away again. We swapped it for a zip and link i.e two singles, which is fine but you can tell the join if you lie on it (cuddling!)
