Reconfiguring Ground Floor

We were planning an extension to infill a corner of our house. At the same time we were planning to replace the kitchen, refloor etc.

Now I am pregnant and I just don't want the stress of an extension. Not to mention the worry of whether it will be done in time.
Our ground floor is already disproportionally large, it just has awful flow (dining area through two rooms from the kitchen). So we thought we would do a total do over of the ground floor instead to make much better use of the space.
My question is where I start? Do I use the architect we had planned for the extension? Or is it an interior designer I need? Someone else?
We are not very creative and really need someone who knows what they're talking about to help us design the best use of space, which walls to knock out etc.

Post a floor plan! MN loves a good layout thread.

Ok! Will do once the little one has gone to bed (I am new here...)

We've done something similar. Probably best to go to an architect with your ideas and they can do a plan for the extension plus internal layout changes.
