Can I use wall tiles underneath my log burner?

Having a log burner installed. I have some beautiful Mexican wall tiles left over from renovations last year and I think they would look great underneath the burner instead of slate! But is this possible as they aren't floor tiles? Or will they crack?

Wall tiles are not as strong as floor tiles and a long burner is heavy! In addition I would be weary of dropping something on them and cracking a tile.

In short, No. The tiles and grout need to be heat resistant or they will crack. You can get special types for around stoves/fires.

Flooring tiles are best and don't forget you may drop ash on them so cleaning is paramount. We have slate.
