Granite or quartz?

I'm so confused. Ideally I want something that

• reasonably light in colour

-doesn't stain from tea being made constantly on it (and my dh will never be trained into doing it on a tray)

• I can just put pans straight onto it
• I can clean quite harshly if necessary

I was thinking that quartz was more suitable but dh is convinced it will chip. Any advice?

I have silestone Luna so a very light surface with faint marbling. Stuff is bomb proof, doesn't stain, pans straight from oven make no mark, tis truly great, would recommend.

Very light grey quartz in previous kitchen, white marble effect quartz in current kitchen, 2 different types of very pale beige / greige silestone quartz in bathroom & ensuite. I don't put hot pans on it, but as previous poster said, supplier said to use Cif for marks which removes everything.

I love my granite! It is a darkish grey colour but with a lot of different minerals and swirls. It does take a bit of effort to bring back the shine (wash with water and then polishing) but looks so good when I've done it - that I don't resent the effort.
Most of the time its not polished to its best, but still looks fine. You can put pans straight down, and its hard wearing. I got mine via an independent dealer and it wasn't exorbitant.

Oh and much less radiation than living in parts of Cornwall etc. or Aberdeen where the houses are made of granite, I also have good airflow in my house.
