Hello,
I hope someone can help us out there! We are moving south from Edinburgh in August. My husband mostly works in soho so He must be able to commute to London. We are looking to rent a 3 bedroom property in a village/town that has some charm and character, ideally north of London for ease of family visiting. The property is for us and our 2 wee kiddies (2.5 & 8mths). Any ideas?

Budget? How long is he willing to commute for?

St Albans. Expensive but nice.
Hitchin.
Bishop Stortford.
Harpenden.

I would advise you look at the Reading/Maidenhead/Wokingham area. Twyford is a particularly nice village with a strong community and good schools. The train line will take you to Paddington.

Thanks I will look at these places. Hadn't thought about out reading way. Our budget is £1500pcm but could poss stretch a bit more for the right place :-)

The villages around Milton Keynes. Less than half an hour into Euston by train. Easy to get to Birmingham airport for flights to Edinburgh.

Was going to say Godalming but it's south west! 40 mins to Waterloo.

Reading / Twyford / Maidenhead will be on the Elizabeth Line from May 2019, which will mean direct trains to Tottenham Court Road.

Ooh just thought of something. When we were relocating to the London area, I'd found a particular area I really liked but before we rented something I checked with the local council about school places and found they were full up. They were really helpful and told me which schools had places for both dcs and I used it to guide my search. I'd definitely advise you to do the same.
