Welwyn Garden City - Getting around in Winter

I am looking at properties in Welwyn Garden City and would like to know about the buses there. I am thinking of winter time when walking from the train station to home in the dark for 20 min doesn't sound appealing. For example is there a bus from the train station to Chequers that is straight forward? What do other people do when coming in from London in winter on the train? I am thinking of safety mostly.

Is it a centre for muggings? Are crime stats high? I think you seem over cautious. I have been there a few times and it seems fairly genteel and has a John Lewis no less! You could splash out and get a taxi in the winter but I really wouldn't worry about safety. I don't know if the buses are reliable but we haven't had snow for years so again you seem over worried about something that may happen very rarely. Snow messes up transport everywhere, not just in WGC.
