Washing machine -kaput?

Washing machine will fill and then stops. I can get it to drain by using that specific cycle, but nothing else gets further than filling. I've cleared the filter (my household appliance version of turn it off and on) but it has not magically fixed the problem. I'm clueless and dh even more so. A call out will be expensive but if it's potentially fixable I'll get one organised. Machine is coming up to 7yo, a Candy grand, GO 282/2-80.

If it's 7 years old it is probably going to cost more to fix it than a new machine costs. Similar happened with ours a couple of years ago, would fill but then no spin or anything. White goods apparently only have 'life span' of around 5-7 years nowadays.

when we had a similar problem, it was a blocked filter. But it wasn't the normal bit that I clear, it was blocked at a different place (although I can't remember exactly where sorry). I was very proud of myself when I pulled the offending purple tiddlywink out!

That's what I was afraid of, Yorkshire. Bloody built in obsolescence . We haven't had a single issue with the machine before now, I thought it was going to rival my mum's 20 yo Bosch.

90% of the time when something stops working it's either something blocked, or something dirty (especially if you suck builder's dust up your vacuum cleaner). If you can dismantle yourself then it's an easy task, but if you have to pay someone to do it then it's a harder choice. At 7 years old I'd be inclined to go for the repair. You can replace it relatively cheaply, but buy cheap, and you'll buy again in 5 years time.
It won't cost more to fix than a new Bosch, Miele, AEG, and they're the ones to go for if you want to last.
