Tile paint?

Our bathroom is so old fashioned, with pink blotchy tiles on every wall, from top to bottom. We can't afford to retile so I was thinking of getting some white tile paint and going for it! Has anyone done this? Will it work/last?

Ooooh! Watching this avidly - need to do the same. Ours is reasonably new but previous owners had shonky taste so just want to freshen for a couple of hundred quid.

We did it before and it wasn't very successful. We had to put on this sticky primer stuff so the paint didn't slide off and then the paint but it looked streaky and you could still see the ugly pattern underneath.

That's exactly our situation as well - it's only a couple of years old but just a horrible tile!

@MugwumpSupreme did you use a brush or a roller?

Not painted tiles in the bathroom, but have in our kitchen. It worked really well and the finish is good- not sure if it would work as well in a steamy/wet room?

ImLadybird · 13/05/2017 21:42

We did it years ago. It worked really well.

I must admit, my worries do stem from the fact that it will be wet quite a lot because of the shower, but I'm presuming primer and topcoat would help?

I've never seen it look very good. The paint is always very obvious, if it goes well maybe link to the products and method.

No, it will look like rubbish tiles painted to look, well, like painted tiles.

Just re-tile it yourself, it's not expensive.

YouTube is great for instruction videos.

We had the same problem with horrid tiles. Tile paint went on well and looked okay, but flaked off in areas that regularly get wet, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Brush I think. Was a few years ago. Roller would probably have been marginally less shit but still a bit see through I reckon.

Try the new renovation paints....V5 I think they are called?

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 13/05/2017 23:12

Sorry, it's V33
