Buildings Insurance excess

Started a home insurance claim a few months ago and was told by our insurer that the excess was £150.

Few days later the contractors they appointed contacted me to take the excess and arrange for work to be started.

Roll on few months later and work is complete and the contractor has emailed me asking me to get in contact as our insurer has asked them to take an additional £200 excess before the file is closed.

This doesn't seem right to me.

I have responded to the email saying that the excess was always £150 as told by our insurer.

I plan on contacting our insurer about this at some point but I'm in and out of appointments at the moment with high risk end of pregnancy so not too sure il get round to it anytime soon

Has anyone had this happen to them?

Could there be any reason for a higher excess charge?

Have you checked the policy? Is there a voluntary excess on top of the standard excess?
