Relocating to holmfirth

Anyone out there that lives in holmfirth and the surrounding villages? I'm relocating this summer and just looking for advice on areas that are scenic but easy enough access into town. Any areas to avoid? Thanks

When you say access into town do you mean Holmfirth or are you thinking Leeds or Huddersfield?
What's your tolerance for being snowed in or driving in snow? Also for hills?
Do you want totally rural or some amenities?
Is the primary school a consideration?
What budget? There is wide price variation and I'd suggest looking somewhere totally different for a £750k barn conversion than for a £120k terrace.

I live in a village 7 miles from Holmfirth and am there often. Too far for my dc to be at school there, but I can tell you many other things.

Most areas around Holmfirth are pretty scenic!! When you say "access to town" do you mean Holmfirth itself, or Huddersfield/ Leeds/ Manchester?

Yeah sorry I mean access into holmfirth - my budget is about 350 max, looking for a 4 bed and need a primary school. From what I can see all the schools are good or better. We wanted somewhere with a nice community feel to it and somewhere that is ideally a walk into town. Upperthong and hade edge look lovely, but then looking around so do others like netherthong and Hepworth.
Snow wise - is it bad enough to significantly hamper my son getting into manchester daily? I just wanted any insider info on what these villages are like really. Whether any are to avoid because of social problems or crime etc. So hard to decide where you might best fit in when you don't know the area. We are a family of 5, teen who is 18 and two little ones 4 and 1. The reason I wanted town to be closeish is for the 18 year old to be able to go out without too much difficulty in getting home plus I like the idea of going to the nice restaurants, having drinks and ideally it being a walkable distance (maybe not in poor weather) home. Yes. But not usually in summer.
Have you looked at Uppermill?

Hepworth is really lovely OP and has a nice community feel and some gorgeous houses. (Google Hepworth feast). But it is not walking distance to Holmfirth you would need to drive or get the bus.
Hade edge is ok. I've always felt that it's quite isolated and, to me, a little bleak.
For walking distance to Holmfirth try Upperthong, Netherthong or maybe Wooldale.
When it's snowy, the road over the tops to Manchester can be closed. Meaning you have to drive the long way round into Huddersfield and then take the M62. So you can still get there but it's a bit of a pain.

Do you have a job in Holmfirth?

If not then the Manchester side of the Pennines will make your son's journey less weather dependent.

If it doesn't HAVE to be Holmfirth look at Lindley as well, it's the other side of Huddersfield but might tick all your boxes - restaurants, easy access to Town, food transport links to Manchester etc.
Possibly not as swanky as Holmfirth but still very nice

Holmfirth is far nice than Lindley. For £350 you would get a nice house in Hade Edge which is about a 15 minute walk or a 5 min bus ride. The school is good too (recently ofsteaded as good under the new rules)

I live near Holmfirth and work in Manchester btw. There's usually a couple of snow days per year but it's not too bad

You could look at Marsden or Slaithwaite as both have train lines into Manchester / Huddersfield.

I live in Honley (5 minute drive from Holmfirth). It's very pretty. There are great restaurants - and soon to be a gin bar! There's also a co op and quite a few shops so doesn't feel too rural, yet has a great village feel. Only 15/20 minute drive in to Huddersfield and down the road from Holmfirth. I believe both primary and junior school to be Ofsted outstanding.

Yes Honley is nice

Honley is good but Holmfirth is better! Plenty of choice of decent housing within walking distance (it's my home town but I don't live there anymore, my brother does). Much livelier than Honley and I'd avoid central Huddersfield at all costs. Definitely ok with anywhere within Holme Valley...

Hi sorry to interrupt- does anyone know anyone that care shares from Holmfirth to Manchester for work at all?

I live 5 mins walk from Holmfirth - all the surrounding villages are lovely with low crime and all the schools are either good or outstanding. Holmfirth is very vibrant and a great place to bring up kids. The 4 bed next door to me is for sale

Thanks mrshoney I've either viewed it already or am about to view! Im finding my search tricky. Haven't found the right place for us as yet but I won't give up! We have sold ours and there is pressure to get on with it, but it's nice to know I'm making a good decision 😀
