Does anyone have a combi microwave/grill/oven?

Just that, really. I had been hoping to add one of these (above a built-in oven) in my new kitchen but not only do they seem expensive, but the reviews are very mixed! I'm wondering if they are worth the money. Any views out there ...?

I do. I like mine. It's a Bosch. We tend not to use the grill because we need the larger grill in the main oven.

YNK · 10/05/2017 14:07

I have a Panasonic.
I hardly ever use the main oven now. I'm very pleased with it.

NotCitrus · 10/05/2017 14:10

Have a Panasonic. It was my only oven for a couple years. The oven is fab and I use it most of the time, the grill is OK if you raise your item up to about 2 inches below it, so on a rack on a pan on the rack.

I have one and hate it. Splats from warming stuff up in the microwave get on the grill element and are a nightmare to clean. I'd much prefer one without a grill. You also have to remember to let the oven cool before putting plastic pots in the microwave or they'll melt.

+1 : Splats from warming stuff up in the microwave get on the grill element and are a nightmare to clean

yes and use it more often than the big one.

Even for warming plates and dishes, or keeping things hot.

You would have a microwave anyway, but most of them are smaller than combis.

Windowbasket · 10/05/2017 14:52

So would you say perhaps separate combi microwave oven (but not with grill) plus big single oven WITH grill? Have just researched this and am now confused about the difference between an electric fan oven with grill and a multi-function oven with grill! Help!!

the multi has grill but I seldom use it. the main cooker has a secondary oven with halogen grill, use it more often.

there are some pre-programmed recipes that turn on various functions in turn, never used them.

I have the Samsung Smart Oven which is fan oven to 200C, microwave and grill. After the guarantee ran out the oven started malfunctioning (it trips and refuses to work for 20 minutes- not great if you're baking). So now it's just a glorified microwave...

AppalazianWalzing · 10/05/2017 15:49

We have a Panasonic, bought because it was a which Best Buy and because when we first moved into our house we didn't have an oven.

It's not bad as an oven, though obviously smaller. Did amazing roast potatoes at Christmas. But..... we now mostly use it as a microwave and it's a bit disappointing for that: quite mediocre popcorn, a bit fiddly with loads of settings, generally feels a bit underpowered. I wouldn't say I regret it, but we almost always use our actual oven for roasting/grilling/baking, which means the combo is only used as an oven at Christmas/celebrations, and as a microwave a few times a week. With that balance, for us, is much prefer if it was a better microwave and an ok oven/grill.

PossumInAPearTree · 10/05/2017 15:54

Me. Only used the microwave function. Am tempted now to do the lasagne tonight in it.

Sgtmajormummy · 10/05/2017 15:57

Mine does a great roast chicken in 32 minutes using its grill & microwave fixed menu function.

AlletrixLeStrange · 10/05/2017 15:59

I have one (can't remember the brand), it cooks things much quicker than a regular oven (this isn't a good thing, I keep burning stuff)

Windowbasket · 10/05/2017 16:04

So, Piglet, you have 3 ovens?

OP posts:
ChipInTheSugar · 10/05/2017 16:07

I have one but can't find any "recipes"/timings! A friend of mine had one and used to do a roast chicken in something ridiculous like 17mins (or maybe 32 like a PP).

Can anyone point me in the direction of cooking guidelines for them?! Smile

DurhamDurham · 10/05/2017 16:20

My husband went out to buy a regular microwave when our last one broke. He came back with a multi oven and grill one and we haven't once used the other features. We use it to heat up beans and custard and absolutely nothing else Smile

Sgtmajormummy · 10/05/2017 17:09

Chip I'm always complaining about the Smart Oven only being as Smart as the person using it Grin. It took me about a week to learn all the codes and functions.
The Samsung website has a PDF of their manuals so easier to access from an iPad... No other suggestions, I'm afraid.

MissPollyPops · 10/05/2017 17:38

I have one from lidl or aldi. It's a few years old now. It gets used pretty much every day. Just the oven and microwave bits. Never used the grill. Haven't used my big oven since I got it...

bojorojo · 10/05/2017 18:29

I have a neff built in combi microwave. It is above my multi function oven with grill. I tend to use the microwave as a microwave but as a combo it is ok - baked potatoes are excellent. The grill
In my oven is just below eye level and is an excellent grill with closed door. I also have an oven below my hob. So I have three ovens! Some people also have a steam oven but I tend to steam in the microwave.

ChipInTheSugar · 11/05/2017 10:23

I find if I'm going to use it as an oven, it loses temperature REALLY quickly as soon as I open the door to put the food in Hmm

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/05/2017 11:01

I've had one for many years, and wouldn't be without it.

I hardly ever actually cook with the microwave, but use the oven far more than the big one, and do quite a bit of warming up/defrosting, and the odd ready meal. It's brilliant for baked potatoes, oven and microwave on together, 2 big ones done in 14 mins, with crispy skins.

If and when mine packs up I will definitely have another. They are expensive, but if you want two ovens at least you don't need a separate microwave. If you don't have a big kitchen that is certainly a consideration.

trixymalixy · 11/05/2017 12:43

I love mine. I also have a panasonic and we use it as an oven more than the main oven.
