Kitchen island different colour or not?

I know it's really down to personal preference but I was considering painting the island a darker colour to the wall units but am now contemplating keeping it all light & airy & accessorise with colour. It is for a kitchen, dining, family room & the kitchen starts in the darkest party of the room but finishes by the bifolds. Do you think different coloured island to the rest of the units is going to date soonish? Thanks!

Yes, it might but the bonus of painted units is that you can paint / get them painted at a later date. I have a very dark island (charcoal) with light grey units. I think (I would) that it looks fab and the darker colour gives the island some "gravitas" - its the central point of the whole room. We have a very light quartz worktop (almost white with grey marble effect) which stops it becoming dark.

Hi thanks that's very similar to one of the options I'm considering. Light grey wall units & graphite island with light marbley worktop & wood flooring (not dark). That's true about repainting down the line. Thanks again!

I think that's a fabulous idea. Just keep it all in similar tones and colours and it will look fine.

I have pretty much the same kitchen you both describe and absolutely love it. I have Carrera-style granite round the side, and dark Iroko wood on the island. Flooring is distressed grey wood effect vinyl. The only time I'd err against mixing the colours is if the space was very small, it might be better to unify.

Oh my goodness your kitchen is beautiful! Love it!! Similar to my plan with family area at other side of dining. Also having aluminium bifolds & windows too. Gorgeous!!

I've kept mine the same as units & I really like the seamless look of it - a different colour was just too modern for me & another decision for my frazzled head!
