Upstand all the way around including behind hob? Splashback on upstand ?

Having a new kitchen installed.
Getting a quartz worktop with upstand.
Haven't decided on upstand behind hob yet but quite like the idea of a nice bright coloured glass splashback. It will be just behind the hob as opposed to across the whole wall.
My q: if people have this combination (glass splashback behind hob only, plus upstand around whole worktop) do you have the upstand behind the hob, or just the splashback?
Thx

We have the upstand and then the splashback. On Quartz too.

Thanks. Try as I might I can't find lots of pics on Pinterest etc to get a feel for what the general norm is...!

Try Houzz. Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom magazine for inspiration. You can buy back numbers if they have done a splash back special feature.

I have quartz worktop and coloured glass splashback, no upstand.

My mum has up stand all the way plus glass splash back behind the hob only. Looks super.

I have just tiles behind the hob. Spent a year after the kitchen was put in deliberating, but decided not to have a glass panel behind the hob as I suspected that it wouldn't be kept spotless (very busy kitchen and lots of cooks).

Quartz upstand and quartz splashback over range cooker here. I like the consistency but I am quite minimalist!

Quartz here too...I opted for upstanding and a simple black splashback.
I've added color with paint and aim to be able to change it easier.

The upstand stops either side of the hob then the splashback is above the hob. If that makes sense.

Spam88 · 04/05/2017 09:12

Ours is the same as bluntness - just the splashback behind the hob and host and every where else.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/05/2017 09:21

We have the upstand all the way around, and a mirror as a splash back sitting on top of the upstand.

This.

Thanks everyone ! And thanks for the pics. Hmmmm still undecided to get thm to template the upstands to stop behind the hob or not.... thanks anyway. Looking at the above pics though it looks like both works...

I think it depends on how tall the splashback space will be. If quite tall then I'd pick upstand plus splashback to break it up a bit and avoid a tall thin effect, If quite short then splashback only.

This is mine. Because of the type of extractor fan we chose, having an upstand and the glass splashback would have made the extractor fan too far away and too close to the ceiling but if you are having an overhead extractor the additional height of the upstand might be useful so you don't keep basing your head against the edge of the extractor hood (or perhaps that's just something I used to do!).

This is mine. I have the upstanding and haven't felt the need for splash back. If you have an induction job, I don't think it's always necessary as the gas hob discolours more.

We have black granite upstand all the way round and full size matching splash back goes all the way from the worktop to the hood, the full width of the hood.

Twoevils · 06/05/2017 08:17

Our upstand stops behind the hob. We have a stainless steel splashback. Quite a lot of oil/fat and debris falls there so it takes some effort to keep clean. I'd just be wary of too many changes in surface and grooves that trap gunk.

Liz79 · 06/05/2017 10:13

Am I the only person who gets splashes in places other than behind the hob?

mum2015 · 06/05/2017 10:19

Liz79,

no you arent the only one. I dont like grout, but i am going to get area around hob tiled. just upstand wont be enough.

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 06/05/2017 17:36

I think I'm just going to get it all the way around including behind the hob. It looks nice with it stopping behind the hob too but it seems to look ok with it. All these decisions to make. Ugh!

OP posts:
llhj · 06/05/2017 19:29

I think that's a good choice.

Bearbehind · 06/05/2017 20:01

I'm with you OP.

I think it looks odd to stop the upstand and change to something else behind the hob but we all have different taste.

I like splashbacks on top of the upstands.
