Struggling to actually view property

We asked a week ago. Chased ea twice, but they apparently haven't heard back from vendor yet 😕 Would this make you think they aren't serious about selling? Not sure what to make of it. Or shall we give them 1 more week in case they're away (but why not just leave keys with agent)?

It's a lovely house but been on for months, which makes me suspicious they don't really want to sell. But then why list it?!

who know why people do anything? There's a lot of weirdos in the housemarket ime!

To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they are on holiday and don't want anyone to realise the house is unoccupied? I'd give it another week, and give the EA a bit of an "interrogation"...are they always like this? how many viewings have there been? do THEY think the vendors are serious or just dipping their toes in? are they vetting potential buyers?
If you go about it in a friendly manner it's quite amazing what you can find out.

Either on holiday OR they haven't actually found anywhere they want to move to yet?

We had this last autumn- saw a property that we were keen to view.

Phoned the EA (Foxtons- now make a point of avoiding all properties on with this agent!) who spent most of the time talking about other properties in the local area.

Arranged a viewing for that weekend- EA said they would call us on the day to give us the exact address/postcode.

Said they couldn't give it to us beforehand as prospective buyers have turned up at properties for sale prior to arranged viewing.

The weekend came, nobody called or emailed. Took ages to speak to someone at the EA- basically nobody knew what was going on.

Made a few more attempts over the next weeks, then the EA admitted that the vendor had already accepted an offer, but was open to viewings for a "better price".

At this point, we told them we'd leave it despite them encouraging us to arrange a viewing.

It's still on the market now, half tempted to ask again to have a first look but we've vowed not to bother with Foxtons- not because of this particular property, just in general don't like their style!

It would make me wonder if someone at the EA is trying to purchase, especially if vendor elderly or probate sale and the house is prominently on display in the window and online.

We had this when we were house hunting. Two weeks of waiting for vendors to respond to viewing requests and then we gave up. In fact our request is still with the EA and we never heard back from vendor, I wouldn't wait around for them x

Is the house local to you? Last resort, stick a note through their door saying the agents are not being helpful but you would like to view the house. I would be furious if an ea I was employing behaved like this. Of course, they could be on a long holiday. If you like the house, try a bit longer, if it fails, well, perhaps it wasn't meant to be.

Properties being marketed by Foxtons put me off too, Turquoise

We had this. Turns out it was a divorced couple. The man had moved out and wanted it sold. The woman was still living there and was in no hurry so was making things difficult. Quite a common scenario I think.

monsieurpoirot · 01/05/2017 19:59

I think I'm going to call once more then leave it. If I do get a bowing I'll be quizzing the agent about them!

I've been put off by EA waiting to see if owners week accept an offer but EA didn't want to tell me, I just came out and asked directly. I've also struggled to view another house and figured if that part was hard then what would it be like dealing with the owners generally and left it at that.
