HELP!! I've broken the 'For Sale' sign!

Hi.

Can someone help.

I have put our house up for sale yesterday and I specifically told the estate agents 'Twice' I did NOT want a sign up outside the house.

For a few reasons: There's a house up for sale opposite which has been up for 9 years!! (with a different estate agent) I don't want the embarrassment if the house doesn't sell.

I don't want people nosing into my house if they see its for sale. Yes ok, I know they can go on the internet and see anyway but why would they randomly look on the internet.

Also, If we are away and the see a for sale sing and no cars there, it might be attractive for a burglar to think ' ahh well they are selling it anyway, we'll just help ourselves'

Any, yesterday i got home from work to find a BIG 'for sale' sign outside the house.

Me, being pregnant and hormonal, i took a saw to the board and chopped half of it off. I sent the state agents a stinking email and voicemail. saying that I specifically requested a board was not erected.

Anyway, they rang me today and said someone would come and collect the board. I told him I had already took it down. and he said leave it in the garden and they will collect it.

What I didn't tell them was it was in half (the board is still in tact i just chopped the wooden pole). oooppsss.... Im just worried now they will be arsey with me. Can they bill me for the board and will they now refuse to sell the house as I have damaged their board???

HELP!!!!

You've damaged their property so of course they can bill you but I think it is highly unlikely. Most EAs use a board company so they may not even know it's been broken.

I am looking to buy a house... I can't even begin to count the amount of times we have driven through an area we like and seen a for sale sign and gone home and Googled the EA website to see the house and see if right for us.

They generate a lot of interest, not always the negative type

Is it pink?

There's a for sale sign round the corner from me lying on the ground.

I assumed it was the work of drunk people. I can imagine a bright pink sign seeming irresistible after a few drinks.

Nope its not pink haha!

Time will tell if a board helps or not :-)

Will EA turn down £££ commission because you've had to put yourself out removing a sign , which was put up contrary to your instructions? Bill them for the saw, your time, and damages for unnecessarily causing you distress.

They won't be bothered about one sign.

They owe you an apology.

It was a mistake, that doesn't give you the right to damage their property. If you are this stressed already, I don't think you will make it through the whole buying and selling process to be honest.
