Vented tumble dryer or one with condenser?

Is there much difference between the two? We could squeeze in a tumble dryer as I think that is better but dh thinks a vented one might be better ( more space). But really it's about the efficiency and which is more effective.
Would appreciate to hear about your experiences.

I've got vented (through hole in wall) & I'm very happy with it. They are supposed to be both more effective & more efficient.

Condensers are more convenient though. If I didn't have a handy wall I would consider one.

Ones with basic controls seem to work better than "intelligent" ones

If you can vent do, you get less moisture accumulating. Otherwise a condensor which is plumbed in.

Vented driers are much simpler so have less to go wrong.

If you browse through posts about tumble driers you will find they are always (?) from people saying their condenser is leaking water or has stopped working.

I've had both, there's not been much difference tbh.

Had a condenser one for years without trouble. . Heats the utility room for ddogs!!

Due to positioning I got rid of my vented one and had a condensed. The vented one was no end of trouble with the hose etc.
The condensed tumble dryer has been amazing. I'm absolutely in love with it.

I love my condensed tumble dryer much better than the center one we had and takes approx 30 mins less to dry.

I've only had condenser dryers for the last 15 odd years. Bought first one due to not being able to position for a vented one, was so impressed when it died about 8 years in we replaced it with the exact same (cheap) model. Think this one is now 7 years old. We do have it in a properly ventilated utility room though. Would say there's no difference in performance compared to vented dryer and if there is any difference in cost / efficiency, have never noticed. Never had any problems with them, would thoroughly recommend.

I have a Miele condensing one and it's great.

I have new Mieile heat pump condenser: cheap to run but it takes AGES to dry anything and everything gets really tangled. Worst decision ever!

Should explain better: its because its a heat pump dryer that causes it to be so very very slow. Not the fact its a condenser. If you buy a condenser ensure you check moisture output. WHICH magazine rank according to moisture output.....even some new ones can cause problems. My Mielie makes almost zero moisture which was important as its in the basement. I could write about this subject for hours...........

I have a condenser for a few months now and I absolutely love it. Only place I could put it was my under stairs storage area though . I always leave the door open while it's running.
Have no issues with it not drying clothes and it's only costing me about 2 euro a week (if even) in electricity which is fine by me!
My mum's had condenser for years with no issues.

Vented are cheaper to buy, cheaper to run and quicker to dry.

I have a siemens heat pump condenser one and it's fine. Sheets do get tangled but i just separate them once per dry. I don't find it takes too long, marginally more than old normal condenser one. It dries fine but i have to put it on cupboard dry extra to get it as dry as i like and i had to adjust the default drying levels up a couple of notches (though had to do that on the old one too)

I'd rather have these very minor inconveniences as my dryer is on daily and i used to worry about the electricity bills.

I've always had a vented one and I like them. My last one was about 18 years old when I finally decided to upgrade. They are much simpler machines than condensers so there's less to go wrong, which is always a good thing in my book. They aren't as easy to find as condensers these days, I had to shop around a lot to find a Bosch one, which is what I wanted. I'm very happy with it.

AEG condenser - we noticed a reduction in electricity bills as use on economy 12. Also heats the utility room, no condensation, very quiet and as it's plumbed into a drainage hose no emptying. Brilliant piece of kit compared to vented model.

I always had a vented one but got a condenser about a year ago and really like it. Not really sure there's much difference in them tbh.

I am so pleased that there are positive responses for condensers because we have measured the space and the only vented tumble dryers that would fit have a 3kg capacity. So a condenser fitted elsewhere will be good.

Do condensers need to be plumbed in or can they just be plugged in?

You can just plug them.in and go a different then just empty the drawer when it gets full. But they normally come with a hose kit which you just shove into the down pipe, waste water pipe.if you have one so it will empty itself which is easier.

If you have a wall you can vent out of, if get a vented. If you don't, get a condenser. I've always had condensers as no handy walls and think they are brill, my latest one has the hose thing that goes into the waste so I never have to remember to empty the tank any more.

We switched to condenser tumble dryer when we moved house as the only space for one in the utility room was against an internal wall.

We've had 2 over the last 12 years (replaced the first one last year) and they are brilliant. We haven't had a problem with condensation. They dry really quickly. Ours isn't plumbed in so we have to empty the drawer every 4 or 5 uses, but that's not a problem.

I've had both and find the room gets much less damp with the condenser and no ugly tube or need to knock a hole in the wall. I don't use it a lot but when the condenser is full it beeps and it simply gets emptied into the sink.

We got a Beko heat pump from ao.con when we moved last year and the only spot for a tumble drier had nowhere for a vent to go. It's fantastic. Miles faster than my previous vented model and more efficient too.
