Extension measurements - exact to architect's plans?

We are having an extension built. I have stressed time and time again to the builder I do not want to lose any internal measurements. Having measured what has been built so far (foundations and a few rows of bricks along the 3 sides) it is 4cm short in width. I am so annoyed. I know it is only 4cm but space is crucial for my floorplan. Any advice?

Has the architect drawn the internal and external measurements? Perhaps the builder thinks you meant the internal measurements were sacred. Do you know you will in fact lose 4cm once the plasterboard etc is on?

If you have "lost" 4cm then you have to decide how important it is to fall out with your builder at such an early stage. For me, it was fundamental that I was on great terms with the builder - think he probably went the extra mile for us, did a few things as part of the build that we hadn't considered, moved a couple of minor things as I realised I didn't like the position. I personally don't think 4cm is worth risking that goodwill for, especially as you don't know yet that you'll lose 4cm from the internal measurements, but if you feel so strongly, then raise it and tell him you want him to follow the architects plan to the letter.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Yes the architects plans show internal and external dimensions and are very thorough. We took the measurement from the inner insulating breeze block not the outer skin of brick. Therefore, we know we are already short by 4cm and when the 2.5cm plasterboard goes on it will be 6.5cm. I'm going to buy a longer tape measure tomorrow as the one we used today is 1.5m too short to measure the length of the wall in one. I want to make sure we have measured correctly before speaking to the builder. Thanks for your reply.

Actually, will that be 9cm total too short won't it being 4cm+2.5cm+2.5cm?

Ok just seen most plasterboard is 1.25cm. So that's 6.5cm short...

I had a wall barely short like that and it's meant i can't fit in the white goods i wanted and it really bothers me. If it won't impact on your plans then i wouldn't think it's worth a potential fall out. Our build ended akwardly because of the builders not following (expensive) plans but my fear was them buggering off half way through so i sympathise.

That's what's frustrating sleepydee9. 6.5cm will impact the internal configuration. I'm going to ask the builder if the measurements match the architects.
