Alternative to cupboard door

We are redoing our kitchen and have an old pantry with standard sized door we are looking to replace with something that won't take up the same 'swing' space of the door. I've investigated tambour shutters which are prohibitively expensive. Anyone any thoughts on other cheaper but good looking options? I've thought about blinds but want to avoid having to stoop right down to open or shut them. Would be grateful!

Could you use two narrower doors which will each take up half the space? You might be able to get larder cupboard doors or similar in the same finish as your kitchen.

We had a pantry door that a previous owner had sawed vertically in half and then attached piano hinges, so it became a V shaped folding door that opened in half the original swing space. It worked really well and when it was shut it matched all the other house doors. Also it was presumably very cheap if they did it themselves!

Could you hang a sliding barn door? Otherwise the cut in half, hinged option is good.
