Neighbours planning application includes a 'plant room' right up against our boundary wall - noise issues?

We are going to get proper advice from an architect, but just wondering if anyone has experienced similar, or if your own 'plant room' is noisy? The building is going to be high and overbearing also, but our main concern is a noisy pump or boiler disturbing our peace in our lovely big garden....

Do they mean a garden room?

I guess it depends what's going to be in the room (and how big the house is). A normal boiler shouldn't be any louder just because it's in a plant room - and in fact you may even be able to get the room noise insulated better than part of the house.

We have air conditioning units outside our house and had to have acoustic engineers measuring the general background sound. We were then told what the maximum noise could be beyond our boundary. In our case this was solved by having a 2 metre fence as they really don't give off much noise.

Have you tried talking to your neighbours and asking what they intend to put in there and how they will keep the noise levels down? They should have to sort out noise levels as part of planning so maybe they already have a plan.

How big is the house and how big is the plant room?

We included one on our planning application and it was for the boiler and hot water tank

It had to specifically be labelled and called the plant room because there were different rules for allowing plant rooms over other sorts of rooms (if that makes sense?)
I can't remember the exact rule but both our architect and builder knew about it

So we couldn't have called it a utility room or airing cupboard even though it had the same function

It might be worth speaking to them about whats going in there
Unless it's a big and expensive house, it is unlikely to be housing air con and a swimming pool heating system...

I think it is a new planning/building term.
Our plumber keeps referring to my loft storage space as "the plant room" it has a huge hot water tank and lots of pipes.
No noise beyond the usual airing cupboard.

We think that the wall of the plant room will be the boundary wall, with a fence above as the plant room will be a metre above the wall which is already 1.8m high. The whole house is humungous, but we won't be overlooked by windows or lose any light (we think) so it is just the noise. We're wondering why they don't integrate it into the house and are worried that it the reason is that it will be noisy
