Central heating - boiler trying to fire up but isn't

Tonight it's a bit brassic, so I checked if the heating had come on. Pressure was low (0.5ish), so I topped it up to 1.5. Pressed reset. I can hear it turning over, a bit like a car trying to start. Green light comes on to show everything's engaged, but then goes off again.
I've checked for radiator leaks and the battery in the remote control thingy is ok.

Any ideas?

Is the pilot light lit?

Hmm. I can't actually see where the pilot light is. (I took the green light as a sign it was on!)

I'll Google and check. Thanks.

if it has a pressure gauge, it probably doesn't have a pilot light.

Is the timer "on?"

And the roomstat is set for a temperature that's higher than the room?

Thanks both for your replies.
Worked through all the possibles and ended up double checking the batteries in the remote control thingy.
Yup.
They needed replacing. Doh.

I suggest to appeal to boiler specialists. For instance, when I had problem with boiler in my Denver house I called to www.summitheatingco.com/ service. They dealt with my issue faster than my husband.
