Asbestos testing recommendations

We are completing on our new house in two weeks and there are some ceiling tiles in the kitchen that we would like to remove. However the property was built in the 1950s so there is a strong possibility they contain asbestos so we will need to get them tested before we remove them. Has anyone ever used a testing kit they could recommend or any advice to get someone out to sample it (and how much did it cost)?

There are online services that will provide a sampling kit for you to take your own samples to send in to them for analysis - costs from around £40 for kit and analysis of 2 samples and disposal of the kit.

Otherwise, you could call a local asbestos licence holder for advice - there is a list on the HSE website.

I used an online self test thing - pennington choices. Was like £40 or something, they sent the kit and protective coveralls and I took a sample and sent it off. Results back quickly.

We paid something like £125 for someone to pop round and test a few samples.
