White Venetian blinds with or without tape please???

Hello all, I'm having real difficulty deciding?

Any advice welcome.

The blinds will be going at the front of the house covering the bedroom and kitchen windows. The windows aren't particularly huge and my home is a new build just to give you an idea.

Many thanks

I think it's personal taste- I really dislike tapes, I think they're a bit twee.

They look messy if the blinds are open because they bunch up and I worry about white ones getting dusty/dirty so I'd go with no tapes.

Luv2chat2U · 04/04/2017 13:33

Thank you bearbehind I've had tape before but on wood effect, they were fine, but as you rightly pointed out my concern is white could get dirty rather quickly. While I do like tape they can also look a little busy hence I'm indecisive lol.

Personally I like the tapes, I think they make the blinds look more contemporary. I agree they bunch up if you have the blinds pulled up, but we have ours down all the time and just turned open or shut. We have white ones that are now two years old in a bathroom and they're not grubby at all (and I'm not great at cleaning regularly). Like you I really ummed and ahhed about whether to get the tape or not but I'm glad I did.

Luv2chat2U · 04/04/2017 14:35

Thanks Jenks. My windows aren't the biggest do you think this matters much?

Also I wanted to have the front of house uniformed but I'm so scared of the dishwater splashing on to the blinds that I worry stains could occur.

Do you think tape upstairs but not downstairs could look odd?

Dishwasher splashing into blinds? Dishwashers don't splash anywhere - I'm confused.
I've no idea what you mean by 'tapes' either - photos please.

Luv2chat2U · 04/04/2017 15:40

Hi there
Lol. Sorry your confused, I've attempted to upload a picture with and without the tapes.
The tapes basically are placed on the blinds where the stings running down would normally show. As I want to get white I was concerned about them getting dirty as my kitchen sink will be directly below.

I have some off white wooden venetian blinds with darker tapes. I think they look smart and it avoids the grubby white tape thing. These are not mine but it gives you an idea - www.blinds-2go.co.uk/wooden-blinds/16349/arctic-white-and-paloma.html

Many thanks for the upload, I have considered this option, just can't find the right colour tape for my bedroom. 😕

With tapes, definitely!

I have them in my bay window and I love em.

With tapes

Luv2chat2U · 04/04/2017 23:58

Many thanks to the last two post.

With tapes - much nicer and more modern

MargotLovedTom1 · 05/04/2017 00:00

Definitely with tapes. Look better quality and more substantial.

stayhomeclub · 05/04/2017 07:25

I prefer the tapes! I had them in my previous house and did find that the tapes went slightly dirty but I wasn't brilliant at cleaning the blind and it was never noticeable. I do think they look better with tapes.

llangennith · 05/04/2017 07:33

I don't like tapes. I didn't even know tapes were an option when I got mine. DD got Venetian blinds recently for three long narrow windows making up the bay window. They have tapes and look awful: far too busy. Maybe on one large single blind they'd be ok.

Joinourclub · 05/04/2017 08:44

Another vote for tapes.

Luv2chat2U · 05/04/2017 10:05

Wow, thank you all for your contribution to my post. Tape appears to be extremely popular.

@llangennith, I share a similar concern, my bedroom is rather small, I have to windows on the same side of one wall, one of which is a medium size window (imagine new build squarish) and second very narrow window. I'm starting to think it might be a little more fuss than needed. For e.g the narrow window will more than likely be obscured by the two tapes running down. And the medium is likely to have four running down. I like tape but if I could opt for less i.e. Choose how many tapes on a blind that would be great.

In my old house I had huge sash windows and big rooms and the tape worked fine.. Not sure about these windows....hmmmm

I like very wide slats and no tapes Smile

JT05 · 05/04/2017 10:38

I have 9ft 'wooden' wide slat blinds, with no tapes, when they are open ( not pulled up ) the view is not interrupted. I prefer not to have tapes on the other smaller blinds, they have a cleaner modern look IMO.

Deux · 05/04/2017 10:51

I have white with white tapes and would choose the tape option again.

They do get grubby at the top of the tapes if the window's open a lot. But I just hoover them and use baby wipes to clean.

Oh and you didn't make a typo earlier. You wrote dishwater and I knew exactly what you meant. Smile. If you're having them by the sink then I think you just need to be vigilant.

I do find my blinds quite heavy though when I pull them up and they take up quite a lot of room when pulled up but mine are usually down the whole time.

Luv2chat2U · 05/04/2017 11:22

Thanks all for your very constructive advise.

I think I may be swaying now to white thick slats no tape. @JT05 and gettingoutofdebt, after looking at tons of blinds online I think I'm going to have to agree with you both on this one.

I very much like the tape option, but don't feel I have the right type of windows to carry this off, nor room size capacity to have so much busyness going on.....

@duex I like the baby wipes idea, should I change my mind this will be useful. Also thanks for noting that I didn't make a typo, I was rather confused at the earlier post made 😂

You did indeed say dishwater- I need my glasses on sorry! Blush

Luv2chat2U · 05/04/2017 12:52

Lol, no problem snowglobes 😂😂😂😂

I am in a new build and have venetians with tapes. I think no tapes look a bit cheaper and the tapes make the blinds look better quality.
