Has anyone used solicitors that aren't local and done everything regarding conveyancing by post or email and phone? Can anyone recommend a firm that they didn't have to really chase?? My previous experience was a local firm and they were awful!!

Yes you can. Word of mouth is always good. Don't use ones recommended by estate agent as most get paid for recommendations which doesn't mean they are always that good. Try a google search for area where you live. A local one can be handy if you need to pop in and sign documents at short notice.

You get what you pay for. A reputable local girl is worth its weight in gold.

I used an apparently reputable firm last time which was local. I chased every day as she wasn't doing any th ING and then googgled her name and she had been struck off the solicitors lost previously by a court then recently reinstated!! Couldn't believe a firm would use her. That's why I'm so worried about using a local firm because it seems that there isn't enough people for the work load. In My experience anyway! And she was expensive!

We used Thursfields in Birmingham, communicated entirely by email/phone and they were excellent.
