How can this be a bedroom?

House on Right move, typical Victorian end terrace, originally with 3 beds and a downstairs bathroom. Usually the 3rd (back) bedroom will be converted into a upstairs bathroom.

So, obviously wanting the best of both worlds, someone has put in a bathroom in part of the bedroom, thus gaining a bathroom and keeping the 3rd bedroom. A bedroom that measures 4ft 2 by 10ft 1.

Apparently there is no minimum size for a bedroom.

A single bed is 3ft wide so you could just about squeeze a bed in and have room to get down one side of it...I guess that's how!

We saw 3 bed mid Victorian terrace similar. They had squeezed a third bed in. I would have called it a nursey / office. Not bedroom! It was as wide as a junior / cot bed and they maybe 7-8ft long.

We went for a 2 bed in the end. I'd rather two doubles than I double 1 single and a box!

Have they got pictures on rightmove? Can you link? It must look like a corridor!

This one near me is labelled as a 3bed which is a bloody joke!!

I saw smaller rooms when I was house hunting. Not big enough for a single bed

I saw a house where the developer had actually taken the door off the airing cupboard , removed the shelves, and called it an office. It was airing cupboard sized.

Conversation with agent went like this.

Agent,,and here is the office.
Me,,,what? No, that's the airing cupboard.
Agent,,,no it's definitely the office now
Me,,, you can't call it an office because it's got no door. It's the airing cupboard. Anyone can see it's the airing cupboard,
Husband,,,(whilst mimicking sitting) well I guess you could maybe get a kitchen chair in here and pretend,,,

It's amazing what some of them do...sigh.

That's expensive for a 3 bed terrace, you can buy a 3 bed semi for that price in other areas.
We will have one for sale in a few weeks, all done from top to bottom, 3 bed semi, lovely area for £130k

It's bigger than our '3rd bedroom'. Ours is a lot shorter than 10ft, I doubt it would take a single bed. Old owners called it a 'box room' or 'junk room'. It's a nice (but small) office for one person, just don't expect to be able to get up and walk around.

That's only just bigger than the room DH had while growing up. His two sisters shared the big double while he had a room which was the length of a single bed and about 4.5 foot wide. He nicknamed it 'the cell' 😊

I can beat that... my sister and I used to share bunk beds and you could only get in the 'room' sideways. My clothes were in two drawers under the bed.

Weirdly I have a thing about space now. Bigger the house the better. :)

It used to be in 'old money' that a single had to be 70sq ft and a double 100sq ft..... it's quite a good rough guide!

We lived in a flat once with a second bedroom that measured about 5'x6'6".

Bloody nightmare.

We viewed one like this. They had two toddler beds in it in a sort of L shape. Nothing else would fit, literally . They were moving because they needed more room..

I had one like this growing up. Had a single bed in it and if I stretched my arms out I could touch both walls.

It wasn't until we went to sell our first house that we discovered that the third bedroom wasn't as long as a bed, it was about 6' by 6'. It was one of many identical modern 3 bed houses on an estate. I'm amazed that developers are allowed to build like that.

You should come to London, that's a regular feature . We were trying to rent and we looked at one house which the estate agent had on as a three bed. When we got there the main house (about 600sq ft) had two of the bedrooms and there was a shed in the garden (unheated, no electricity) which they were calling bedroom 3. The EA seemed so pleased with himself too that they could now call it a 3 bed, so I had to argue with him and asked exactly which of my young sons he expected to sleep in the garden and never used that estate agent again They were charging £1800/month (zone 3) - bloody cheek!

Surely that's a cupboard!
