When to order glass splash backs and granite worktops

We're just looking into replacing our kitchen and want glass splash backs and granite worktops.

It has occurred to me that, as the worktops will have curved ends and the splash backs need to fit the gaps between the units/ appliances properly, there's no room for error so I'm reluctant to order them until the new units are fitted.

How do people do this? Do you have to have a period where you can't use the kitchen whilst you wait for the worktops to be cut?

Basically yes. It's about ten days.

So you have the units ordered and fitted, then the worktop guy comes and makes a template. Either via laser or the old fashioned method of drawing a life size template. They them cut the granite and install it a few days later. Some cutting is done on site,,i.e. If you have weird bends or angles.

My kitchen installers put old bits of mdf on top of the units for me so I could use them in the meantime.

I love love love the granite worktops. Mine are black with a very pale and indistinct grey fleck in. They have a deep lustre and look expensive, they are seriously easy to maintain too. Friends have corian and quartz etc but I like the deep lustre of granite.

Can't talk about glass splash backs though.
