grey upvc window frames externally - should I go for white or grey internally?

We are getting grey uPVC windows in our extension and also replacing our existing windows so they match. We have the option of having grey or white frames internally and are having trouble deciding. If anyone has grey windows internally, does it look dark and is it difficult to decorate the room around the windows?
If anyone has grey externally and white internally, are you happy with your choice?

Our windows are grey externally and white internally. It looks good. I think grey internally would be too dark in this house, and the windowsills are painted white so it would make the window frames stand out more than I'd want them to.

There's a house with grey external ones round here and it looks fab. I realise that isn't really an answer to your question though!

Milady - that's what I'm concerned about too. Actually, I think the extension would look great with grey internal windows because it's open plan but it might be too dark for the rest of the house. But we can't really just put grey in the new bit because that would also look strange.

dinobum we're hoping it looks good too.. there are loads of newbuild houses popping up with grey windows around here so at least I know I'm vaguely on trend!!

If they're getting replaced anyway could you slap a bit of paint on the old frames and see how they look?

We have mainly grey outside and white inside. Very pleased with them. The only ones we have non white inside are the sliding doors and back door. They're all on one level with no windows so it doesn't look odd. I've attached a pic showing the ground and lower ground extension with a combination and the front ground floor living room with white.

Having both types inside I'd say that whilst black or grey frames the view outside quite well, it makes it stand out too much. I didn't want white frames to the sliding doors as I thought it would make them look cheaper but elsewhere we painted white so it makes the frames invisible.

I would go with grey on the outside and white on the inside, with the exception of doors as dynevoran said, we have grey bifolds and it doesn't look out of place with the other white windows on the inside.

Dynevoran can I also ask if you laid your parquet flooring yourselves as it looks gorgeous, was it very expensive?

Another vote for white inside - it will be much easier to decorate and lighter.

Similar situation. We had grey on all the outside windows but have a big kitchen diner extension with anthracite (dark grey) bifold doors. So all the windows in that big room (and the utility next door in case we ever decide to change layout) are grey inside too. I definitely didnt want different coloured door & window frames, bifolds were always going to be grey and because its such a big, light room 7m x 7m approx and decor is mostly white, the room can take the colour. Think it looks fab (imo!).
All the other windows (bathrooms / bedrooms etc) are white inside.

blackcountrygirl and jenks81 I got the floor from a local store but we ran out and so did they so I had to source more. I found it was stocked at about 10 online suppliers. This is one example of it, if you type into Google "80 x 350 herringbone parquet oak lacquered" you will find other suppliers who may be a little cheaper.

And we didn't lay it ourselves but we are rubbish at diy and had the builders in anyway so they did it. It didn't look too hard until you get to the steps and edges when you have to cut. They made stairs for us.

white inside.

Imagine you had decorated a room with grey woodwork, and were told you couldn't repaint for 30 years.

I have grey inside in our new extention and it looks great but we didnt replace the other windows in the house but if i did i might had had white inside too. our extention is big, very bright and all white so the grey look great. you could do grey in the new area and white in the older part of the house.

Thanks very much. I think that I'll have grey patio doors (and perhaps the other windows in the extension) but definitely have white internally for the rest of the house.

I would have said white internally too, however our current rental has grey ones on the extension and white painted timber everywhere else. They all look fine. The extension is modern compared to the rest of the house and I'd not realised they were different until just now as you don't see the different windows at the same time if that makes sense. The inside window cills are white painted timber. As seen in photos.

Personally I think the grey looks lovely inside and frames the view.

I am going to have upvc windows installed throughout my house (total refurbishment), grey exterior frames and white interior. However I'm struggling on which colour is best to have on the inside frames. Apparently I can have white or grey. Does
anybody have bicolour frames, and if so, what colour is on the inside frames? I live in Spain, and the doors and windows here all open inwards. so the grey will be facing inside when open.
