Boiler in dining room

Just viewed a house that has the boiler in their dining area albeit hidden in a cupboard. Is this normal? Does this suggest it needs a re-plumb? D'you think we could move it? Where to? Ours has always been in a utility but this house doesn't have a utility. Thanks in advance!

I would not see a problem unless I planned to use the room constantly and the noise coming from it. I use my dinning room as a living room so would not want the noise that my boiler gives off whilst watching TV.

I wouldn't write off a house based on the position of the boiler. If everything else is great about it, you could get the boiler moved.

Our boiler is about to be in our living room. It was in our kitchen but we are doing a refurb and the rooms are switching around. I can't see any reason to move the boiler. So maybe this is what happened in the house you are looking at?

A combi boiler will tend to be noiser, as it will start up at full power every time someone runs a hot tap. Conventional boilers very seldom need to run flat out, and their timers can be set to reduce noise nuisance.

Does 'dining area' mean the kitchen ?

You can have a boiler anywhere in your house. The only places I wouldn't have one is in a bedroom, which I have seen, or in the living room.

So my first house had the boiler in a bedroom! I had this moved to the kitchen for about £1k - turned out to be a difficult job as the gas supply route was complicated and they ended up just putting in a new supply from the meter.

Last house had the boiler nicely in the kitchen all boxed in in matching cupboards.

Current house has a boiler in the siting room (extension) not even boxed in or the wall made nice around it. Looks shit. I'm going to get it boxed in and will move it as part of my Grand Master Pipe Dream Plan (GMPDP)

Thank you everyone - I guess I'll need to check if it's conventional or a noisy combo and then move it if necessary. It also looks very small for a large (4000sqft) 5 bed house. But maybe the tank is a more important consideration - I've not seen that. It's so hard to know if plumbing or electrics are out dated when viewing!

It isn't a problem, it's only a problem if it's in a bedrooom. I have a great big water tank in the spare bedroom and it's a nightmare, I need it replumbed but can't afford it.

Seems odd in a house that size to me. I would have thought there would be somewhere more logical for it to go. But maybe the house has been previously reconfigured and not had the boiler relocated.

Mmm! Thank you all. I'm thinking it'll need moving and if it is a combi need changing anyway as we are a big family who have tons of visitors staying over! Maybe the whole house will need a re plumb. Not sure how I would know without doing full survey, which is quite late in the process.
