Do I need to stain decking?

We had quite a large amount of decking last summer (due to extension and level of garden, was out only choice - actually I love it, so nice to walk on). Our gardener said there was no need to stain it as it had already been treated but is this true,? I'm happy with the mellowing colour but I want it to last and not splinter.

My decking was treated,but you do need to treat it eventually to keep it in good condition.I stain mine every 2 years.

Make sure the skirt you are wearing on the day you stain your deck isn't one you later want to wear for work.

Ours was the same, didn't need treating immediately but still needs maintenance to last a nice long time.
I didn't find it too hard, sanded down and then used stain from Homebase. Did it all in once nice sunny day

Ok so I have a couple of years...we have quite a lot so I'd rather leave it this summer so I can just enjoy the garden!

Depends what it is made of entirely. Some woods you do have to stain, some you shouldn't and if you do stain it it will harm the wood.

we had one fitted in november. The carpenter called it 'green' wood - treated and said that i will need to power wash off the moss in the spring (wont be necessary 2017) and every three years to 'tanonise' it (buy stuff to put on decking like you do fences)

haha just googled tanalised is what it is made of, and you can buy special stuff to treat it with. Glad I checked!
