Coming to measure up?

Our buyers have asked to come to the house to measure up...is this a thing now? We have already had a sale fall through due to ftb at the bottom, now we've sold to ftb and they want to come to measure up ( they haven't even done their survey and only offered last week) they're having second thoughts aren't they?!

We are going to measure up at the house that we've had an offer accepted on, but have not yet bought. We want to start buying our kitchen and bathroom suites so that our builders can start work as soon as we get the keys.

The seller's estate agent was a bit funny about it, but thankfully the seller said it was fine.

I would take it as a positive sign. Why do you think they are having second thoughts?

we measured up and so did our buyers. we exhange this week! we too had a sale fall through. lots do.

when we turned up the vendors' face looked like thunder, assuming we were messing around, so please give your buyers the benefit. we were genuine, yet the vendor's demeanour on that day made the whole thing feel negative.

Conversely, when our buyer came round to measure up we rolled out the red carpet!

Why would you assume the worst? We did this when we bought last year. It was to get a more accurate quote for the new kitchen and to check that ds1's bedroom furniture was going to all fit in his new more awkward shaped bedroom. We did it before exchange too as there was a 6wk lead time on the kitchen and I wanted to buy it the day we exchanged so it was in ASAP.

Although we were post survey but then we instructed our solicitor first thing the following morning after offer accepted and paid for searches over the phone immediately. We also instructed survey within 24hours of offer being accepted as we had already had mortgage confirmed.

EA said vendor was alarmed by our speed but I cannot understand why everyone doesn't do this. We once withdrew an offer after the EA told us she was chafing the vendor to instruct a solicitor nearly 2wks after accepting our offer. We lost money on that one.

As a ftb it's likely they have all new furniture to buy etc so measuring up for the bigger parts is important. It means they're keen to proceed quickly, not drop out.

We measured up when we bought this house 14 years ago, but we had had survey and were very close to completing, we just hadn't seen the house in so long we wanted to get it clear in our mind again.
I would say I wanted them to instruct a solicitor first.
How many times have they viewed?

Our buyer wanted to come round so we could teach him how to use the washing machine, oven, dishwasher and gas fire. Numpty

I wouldn't dream of buying a house without measuring up. Otherwise you'd be relying on the EA's measurements for the floor space, 'limited headroom' etc, and if you've ever read their T&Cs you'll know that there is no comeback if their measurements turn out to be wrong.

I would see this as a real positive. They are already planning where their furniture is going etc, so can obviously see themselves living there already.

When we were ftb we went round to measure up. We did it to 1 measure up for furniture, 2 because we were excited and wanted to see the house again and 3, so that we could take my parents round to show them the house. We of course only told the estate agent about number 1

It's a good thing I think. Don't worry because of it

Thanks everyone, we are so desperate to move we have not long since had twins and are bursting out of this house and already had one fall through so id convinced myself they were coming to pick faults with it.
I will absolutely not do this again

To reassure you more - the one time I did pull out (because of a bad survey) I absolutely wouldn't have wanted to see the house and especially the owners again. (Like a bad relationship you don't really need an excuse to dump but you do feel bad.)

I measured up....I wanted to buy curtains so I could put them up first night and we were investing in some oak furniture and wanted to make sure it fit.
I also wanted to go and have another look at our new house again!
